Nightstand Make-over

When we did the great room switch last fall, I had a vision in mind for BG's room. I painted her toddler bed and we bought a dresser. We painted her room and it was looking good. I wanted to get a nightstand table to go next to her bed. I found this one at DI and decided to buy it to paint.



I sanded it and got it primed. Then it sat all winter. Sometimes it takes me a while to get around to finishing projects. I finally got it painted on Memorial Day. This weekend I went to Home Depot to get a knob for the drawer. I got it all put together and up in BG's room.

Ta Da!! I took apart fake flowers to make the petals on the knob. We added them to her dresser also. I like the way it turned out. It's not a super high quality nightstand, but I figure that's ok for kid furniture. This piece of furniture is a good step in the right direction of getting all the toys off the floor.

Dress Up

Over the weekend, I left BG to play while I took a shower. She is usually good to play on her own long enough for me to shower and get ready. On this particular morning she did not play well on her own. I got out of the shower and found this.

Does this remind anyone else of a scary circus clown? No? Just me then.

Anyway, my first reaction was to freak out and punish her. Something in my head told me to stop and take a picture before I cleaned her up. So we took some pictures, cleaned her up, then she spent a long time on time out. It did kind of make me laugh. I knew it was only a matter of time before she got into my make up. I guess this was the day.

The Garden

We planted our garden a few weeks ago. I am so excited to have fresh veggies from the garden. This year, we also put in a garden box since our soil is pretty much solid clay. We built it up and filled it with fresh soil. Our garden went from this...

Ok, so you really can't see any difference (except for my one tomato plant). But I'm hoping a few months from now it will be bursting with corn, carrots, squash, and beans. I anxiously check for new little sprouts on a regular basis.

Astute Observations

Yesterday, while we were sitting outside Costco waiting to be rescued, BG was saying hello to everyone as they walked in. An older man wearing a cowboy hat walked by and BG piped up.

BG: Hi! Are you a cowboy?
Man: I am! How did you know?
BG: Cowboys ride horses and ponies.
Man: Yep, I bet you could tell by my hat.

It was pretty cute exchange and I was grateful that the man was kind about it. I'm not looking forward to the day when she blurts our equally obvious, but less socially correct observations such as "That man is fat." or "Why does s/he look that way?"

My genius is overwhelming

An Update of a Random Nature

It's been a while since I posted last. My job is picking up which leaves me less time during the day for blogging. The nerve!

Blanche had her four month Dr appt. Her stats are: 14 lbs 7 oz, 25.5 inches long. She is the exact same percentages as her two month visit - 75th for weight and 90th for height. We've solidly moved into 3-6 month clothing and I've cleaned out all 0-3 month from her drawers.

BG is in soccer this summer. Kind of. One of the neighbors volunteered to put together a weekly soccer "team" for the 3-4 year olds in the neighborhood - since the city leagues don't start until age 5. So we have been going to soccer for a few weeks and it's pretty hit or miss. The first week she refused to leave my lap (but it was cold and windy). The second week she had a great time. I missed the third week because I had to work, but she got team shirt and was really excited about wearing it. Next week will be the last week. It's been really fun to see her play with all the other neighbor kids.

In a few weeks, BG will start a summer dance class. I was so excited to find a dance program over the summer on the right day (the only day I'm off work) just a few miles from our house. BG is really excited too and talks about it.

We are getting close to BG's birthday (June 22). Everything now is in relation to her birthday. When will Aunt R have her baby? Before BG's birthday. When does dance start? Before her birthday. When does school start? After her birthday. When is Christmas? After her birthday. You get the idea. I think I've talked her into a pink cupcake party. My cousin just did a party for her daughter with the same theme and it was adorable so I'm thinking of borrowing some ideas.

We finally got our garden planted. Hurray! I'm excited to have fresh veggies this summer. We even noticed some tiny peach buds on our peach trees this year. Sadly, we had to pick them off because the trees are too young to support fruit this year. But next year.... I'm excited.

JM is working a million crazy hours. He has been working on a start up company for several years now and we are almost to a critical point. We just got our first sale and things are looking really good. We're hoping the snowball of sales is just beginning. Sadly that just means he'll be working even more. But that's ok. Hopefully sometime soon he will be able to quit his current job and work for his company full time.

What TO Wear

I like the show What Not to Wear. Stacey and Clinton do such a great job at talking to the people about finding clothes that work for that individual person. They talk about dressing for the job you want, not the job you have. They tell contestants (is that what they are?) to embrace and dress their current body, not wait until they lose the weight most people are trying to ditch.

I would like to go on their show. Not because I think I'm such a fashion disaster, but because I want $5,000 to spend on a new wardrobe full of quality pieces. I'm by no means the best dressed person around - I routinely walk the hem off my jeans, am phobic of prints, and accessory challenged, but I think I look presentable. Do you think they would still take me?

I like that the new ones tell your what they actually got with their $5000. I had always wondered how far it stretches when some of their pieces are hundreds of dollars. I'm really excited about the hair/make-up makeover. I keep thinking that I need a stylist to look at my face shape, account for the under-ten-minutes I like to spend on my hair, then give me a cut based on that. And I need a really good lesson on how to do smokey eyes. Stacey & Clinton- I promise I'll be a good student. Someone should nominate me, but before you do, let me lose the last 10 lbs of baby weight.
