Room Remodel

I've decided I want to model my office. Not remodel, because it's basically a blank slate. It's my space where I create. I have all my crafting supplies up there for jewelry, scrapbooking, and other odds and ends. But the problem is I don't love the space. It's not inspiring and I don't enjoy being in it. This must change!

Since I don't have any money, or approval from JM (yet) it will have to be a low cost upgrade. I'm thinking paint, some handmade accessories, a shelf, and some curtains. Maybe a few accessories, and new furniture only if I can find it for a great deal (I have been scouring Craigslist). A mirror would be great too. I'm thinking blue and chocolate brown with accents in bright orange, yellow, and/or red. I saw this nursery from another blog and got totally inspired. She decorated the whole thing for way cheap and it looks adorable!

I love the hanging art that is really just scrapbook paper! Does anyone have any brilliant interior decorating advice for me? I should take and post some pics of my space so you all can feel bad for me. You know, for the horribly bland office I am forced to scrapbook in. See, it's working already! I will gladly accept any decorating donation if you're feeling up to it. :)

I need to clear out and decorate my storage room too. My scrapbook stuff is over-running my bedroom. I like the idea of painting. It is so cheap to do and you can make it look so great. I also love the hanging art that is really scrapbook paper!! Great ideas!!

I do like those hanging art pieces. Seems easy enough to do. I'm not very good at being crafty.

Thanks for popping by!

Those art pieces look great. You can do lots of amazing, cheap, custom things with framed canvases. They can get pricey (for my taste, anyway) but Michael's will often have 40 or 50% off deals if you watch their ads.

Once I painted big (4" or so) vertical stripes on one wall of a formal living room. I painted the stripes in the semi-gloss version of the same color paint (the room was in satin). It was beautiful. people thought it was wall paper. And all you need is blue tape and a level.

For me, I love Asian Decor. So we look for cheep and nice things to hang on our walls for the decor. Usually, as of recently, Jay will bring back beautiful wall scrolls to hang up on the walls or statues of dragons and what not for us to use. That works wonders for our living room and looks great too. So I would say find something you love and go from there.

Paint works WONDERS. If you like stripes I recommend doing one bucket in a flat finish and the other bucket (of the same color) in a satin finish or an eggshell. Then offset each stripe in a different finish. It looks so cute. Then you don't have to accent as much with your wall hangings.

Speaking of that, I just bought an antique window at a barn sale (for practically nothing) a few months back. I just hung it on the wall in my family room (photos to come). Tai Pan usually has some (cheap) fun stuff too, are you in the Salt Lake area?

What is a barn sale and where do you find it? I also love Tai Pan, I'll have to go check them out again.

I agree that the paint alone does wonders!

Curtains are also a great addition, and quite easy to make. I subscribe to Joann's emails, and they always have some kind of sale, and coupons for 40% off of one item or cut of fabric!!

Are you kidding? That's just scrapbooking paper? I love the way that looks. It's funny that you have this post because I am in the middle of setting up a scrapbooking room myself and I'm trying to figure out how to make it a place of creativity. Right now it's just a bedroom.

So happy you stopped by today!

I suck at decorating, but those hanging pieces of paper on wood or whatever is a BRILLIANT idea! They are all different designs too but it's a nice touch! Love it! Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

Hey, I was just looking at your blog last night and got distracted by all those cute blog links you posted...some people are seriously SO creative and still have so much time to blog about it. How do they do it? Good luck with your room...how wonderful that you even have a room to decorate and be creative in. My corner of the basement is taking over the basement and that's not a good thing. anyway, just wanted to say sorry that we didn't get together with your family (parents and siblings) over the break...I hope your mom doesn't mind, but we were just so busy with Dan's family. Isn't it great that we can still keep up with each others' lives on these blogs? :)

I'm an HGTV fan so I'd go to HGTV.com and check out some of their decorating ideas. I think the "rate my space" stuff looks like a good idea. I intend to someday take the time to find ideas for my own house.
