Cinematic Outrage

Yesterday we decided to go to a movie with my parents. Even though my parents wanted to see Star Trek, we opted for a kid-appropriate movie, Monsters vs. Aliens. We have already seen this movie once before. Since we are cheap, we decided to hit a matinee. We walked up to the cashier to purchase two adult and one child ticket.

When she gave us our total of $22.50 I about choked. For a matinee! Aren't kids (under 3) free?! Come to find out, that is not the case. The matinee adult tickets are $7.50 plus an extra $2 each for the 3D. A child age 1 and up requires a ticket. Since when is a matinee over $7! I know we don't get out to the movies much anymore since we have a kid, but that seems really expensive.

What really gets me is that I don't actually like 3D that much. It gives me a headache after a while. It freaks BG out and she refuses to wear the glasses. We sighed and paid the over inflated price. The movie was ok, far from our favorite and definitely not worth $22.50 for the second viewing. Am I alone in thinking the film industry has gotten out of hand with ticket prices?

$12 bucks per here. Add a popcorn and 20 bucks for the babysitter and a movie costs $50. Bout the same if you bring the kids... you pay for tickets or a sitter. I'd love a $22 family movie.
This is why we do netflix.

I think its times like this that I love our military discount. For just Jay and I to do a movie its $17.50, before popcorn and drinks. By the time our date nighst are over we've spent $50 between the movie, popcorn and drinks, and dinner afterwards. I almost choked when we didn't do military discount and had to pay $22 for just Jay and I. The problem is until people put voice their issues with the prices they will never change.

That is totally out of control. I haven't been to a movie since the last Harry Potter came out. Now I know that I will have to mortgage my house before I buy a movie ticket.

That is CRAZY!! Matinee's are $5.50 here and if you go to the secret theater it's only $4.00.

Wow! This is good justification for having been to the movies about 3 times since we became parents (5.5 years ago!).
Popped in to say thanks for stopping by my blog to check out WFMW!

Matinee here is the same price...and I wasn't too impressed with Monsters vs. Aliens 3D (mainly b/c we had to go to the only theater that offered it 3D & they didn't give military discount)

I remember when a matinee was $3.25!!! oh, to be a kid again...

Be happy for what you've got. I just got back from a matinee. I went by myself and just spent 18.50 on a ticket (9 bucks) and a hot dog and drink (10.50). And ya know what? It was worth it!
